The University of Iowa Department of Pathology is seeking an Informatics Specialist to be responsible for promoting improvements in health care informatics through the use of electronic health information including, but not limited to, the evaluation and delivery of tools to optimize the acquisition, storage, retrieval and use of electronic health information. Provides departmentally based support for the analysis, design, implementation, and support of the Department of Pathology Laboratory Information System(s) with an emphasis on middleware. Collaborates with clinicians, faculty, staff and other customers for the implementation, development and/or support of other clinical systems used in the Department of Pathology. Acts as primary contact for middleware throughout the Department of Pathology.

A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, or Management Information Systems, or an equivalent combination of education and clinical laboratory experience.
Professional certification such as MLS, MLT, HT, MT, etc through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
3-5 years of clinical laboratory experience
Prior experience working with Laboratory Information Systems
Ability to communication effectively, both orally and in writing, with technical and non-technical staff
Must be proficient in computer software applications with specific knowledge of MS Office tools.
Experience with middleware
Experience with data mining/data extraction using database and/or clinical information system tools.
Additional Salary Information: Base salary for this position is $49031,however actual salary will be commensurate based on education and experience.
