We are looking for a Network Specialist to help design, implement, maintain and support NISC member networks. This position will be part of the Networking Infrastructure team that is responsible for designing and developing scalable, maintainable, and highly available network architectures for NISC member owners.
Maintain a thorough understanding of the basics behind the internet and its workings(DNS, Security, IP Routing, HTTP/HTTPS, VPN, Email Routing, SPAM, etc.)
Planning, install and support on various networking devices and services(e.g., switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS, wireless)
Perform network maintenance and system upgrade including firmware patches, hotfixes, and security configurations.
Monitor performance and resource utilization, trending and capacity planning
Provide level 2 or 3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues.
Maintain a thorough understanding of Local Area and Wide Area Networking
Assist in the creation and maintenance of technical documentation such as hardware and software inventory and topology maps
On-call after hours rotation including evenings and weekends
Desired Job Experience:
5-8 years network engineering experience
Knowledge of cisco, HP, Extreme switches
Hands on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools
Linux and Windows server experience a plus
Knowledge of VoIP implementation and support
Strong customer orientation
Strong problem solving skill and attention to detail
Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
Ability to communicate in a polite and friendly manner, both written and verbal.
Desired Education and/or Certification(s):
Bachelor’s Degree in a computer related field or equivalent experience preferred.
Technical Certifications preferred.
