The Mainframe Systems Administrator for Mainframe Support is the person responsible for the technologies related to the software and hardware for the mainframe environment. This role is also responsible for providing end user support for mainframe applications.
• Work hand in hand with other mainframe team members. • Maintain and enhance U. S. Steel’s mainframe architecture which includes hardware, software, and ISV applications. • Work with U. S. Steel’s mainframe vendors on software issues or maintenance upgrades. • Interaction with vendors and suppliers for industry best practices, benchmarking, innovative solutions and their performance to the established service level agreements. • Understand the interoperability with other key USS systems • Participate and enhance the Mainframe Support Disaster Recovery plan • Participate in the management of the performance and capacity of the Mainframe server, storage, backup, and monitoring, platforms. • Provide technical support for the application developers and Network Operation Center. This may include occasional off hour support.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Highly self-motivated, self-directed • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a rapidly changing environment • Excellent written and verbal communication • Prior experience with z/OS operating system at an enterprise level • Prior experience with mainframe software support • JCL and ISPF skills required • Cobol, REXX and SMPE skills a plus • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or comparable technical field experience
• MUST have experience with the following: software installation, Z12 or Z13, IMS, REXX, ICSF, assembler language, SMPE, hardware configuration, z/OS, BNY Mellon, Highmark, PNC, UPMC.
