The Associate Vice President, Information Technology provides leadership and day-to-day management of the business, budget, operations, strategic planning and governance functions for the Information Technology department. The person in this role anticipates technological and system-based solutions, puts in place short and long-term plans, and implements information technology solutions that reflect the institution’s advanced teaching and learning environment.
This position is responsible for the design, development and implementation of organizational information systems, software applications, and information technology support and infrastructure systems. This position manages and directs the college Helpdesk and Systems Operations units within the department. The Associate Vice President, Information Technology puts in place policies and programs that impact a variety of areas, including but not limited to all business operations, computer services, desktop computer support, network communications, and support, implementation and administration of software as a service technologies to support the mission and accomplish the goals and objectives of the institution.

Leads the development, communication and execution of Information Technology (IT) strategy in alignment with the institution’s mission.
Serves as an integral member of the institution’s management team assuring strategic and appropriate applications of technology in education, research, business planning and practice, and outreach.
Develops a vision informed by industry best practices and emerging technology, and identifies opportunities to use new technologies to support institution’s programs.
Guides IT governance to establish IT priorities, develop policies and standards, and allocate IT resources.
Develops and administers the department budget and ensures institution-wide adherence to centralized technology acquisitions process.
Ensures delivery of appropriate, effective, efficient, sustainable and secure IT services to customers and lead implementation of information technology for appropriate use in research, education and outreach.
Aligns long-term and short-term IT strategic plans and practices with the institution’s strategic plans and practices.
Develops and supports an effective and efficient IT workforce and represent the institution in negotiating and managing enterprise IT vendor contracts and relationships.
Engages stakeholders to ensure transparency and promote positive relationships.
Collaborates with customers and consultants to identify technology needs and be open minded to innovative solutions to meet customer expectations.
Analyzes organization impact of technology trends and best practices on business solutions, evaluates how future technology solutions impact current and future business and established long-term work plans and strategies to ensure optimization of services across institution.
Sets expectations, delivers against those expectations and provides IT leadership to the institution.
Supervises and evaluates IT staff.
Develops, recommends and implements all technology operations policies and procedures for the institution.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
Education and/or Experience:
Master’s degree in Computer Science, or appropriate area of specialization, and six years of demonstrated, progressive experience in information technology; or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or appropriate area of specialization, and eight years of demonstrated, progressive experience in information technology.
Experience in working, leading and implementing innovative, on –demand, mobile software as a service solutions preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must be a proactive, strategic thinker with a strong ability to identify and deliver innovative technical solutions and support a customer services focuses information technology team.
Ability to work effectively and work across multiple constituencies; have a strong, open collaborative leadership style; and have outstanding communication skills.
Ability in leading information technology transformation from a traditional IT division of data centers, and network to embracing creative customer focused cloud based application deliverables.
Ability to manage a high-performing team with results oriented objective driven by end user and customer expectations.
Ability to establish credibility and rapport quickly with a wide range of stakeholder and constituent groups.
Ability to thrive in a changing and dynamic work environment.
Ability to provide excellent leadership and management skills in strategic planning, functional transformation, change, budget and resource allocation.
Well versed in all aspects of software, hardware and networking in addition to embracing building new and innovative customer cloud-based solutions.
