GENERAL DUTIES I.T. Support Assistants support routine operations and problem resolution of computing and/or communications functions at a College or Unit. They work in technical support, applications development, operations, help desk, and similar environments, as well as in the field where equipment may be located.
Work tasks include as: -Operating, transporting, adjusting, and installing/configuring computing and related equipment -Communicating with technology users and staff to understand, identify, document and resolve problems -Performing simple repairs to computing and related equipment.

CONTRACT TITLE IT Support Assistant

Information Technology (IT) is the division of the Graduate Center responsible for voice, video, and data systems and services. The mission of this unit is to promote, facilitate, and support the effective use of technology in the learning process, in instruction and research, and in processing and accessing institutional information.
Reporting directly to the Media Services Manager, the Media Services Support Assistant provides support for audiovisual technologies and video conferencing systems in conference, training, auditoria, and/or public spaces as well as support desktop video conferencing software. This position has three vacancies.
Duties include but are not limited to:
-Assist in the installation and configuration of computer peripheral equipment including equipment to support multimedia applications, such as video display equipment and video recording playback equipment of all formats, and projection screens.
-Performs routine maintenance and problem diagnosis for projectors, Audio Systems, and Displays.
-Troubleshoots and installs Audio and Videoconferencing systems.
-Performs modifications in the field, including crimping, soldering and maintaining cable management.
-Gathers and analyzes system logs and system settings for codecs, control systems, mixers, and complex broadcast equipment as needed.
-Coordinates media communications using the Outlook Calendar and Track-It! tickets; documents work via email, spreadsheets, and ticket software.
-Ensures all media spaces are presentable for use.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
Eighteen months of related full-time work experience or equivalent, such as completion of eighteen college credits in Information Technology
Demonstrated English Language proficiency
A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS A preferred candidate should have:
-Two (2) years of media experience.
-Experience with Audio Visual equipment, configurations, and design.
-Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
-Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
-Proficient in the safe use of hand and power tools.
-Proficient with solder, compression and crimp type connectors.
-Ability to think and work independently and meet necessary deadlines
-PC proficiency and knowledge of a computer including Apple products.
-Ability to read and utilize blueprints and audio/video flow diagrams.
-Ability to utilize audio mixer software to calibrate and eliminate echo and feedback.
-Ability to use test equipment to troubleshoot system problems.
-Ability to lift 75 pounds, climb ladders, crawl under tables, etc.
COMPENSATION New Hire: $19.68/hr* Incumbent: $22.25/hr *This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment only.
