Applications for the Outreachy May 2018 to August 2018 internships are now open:
Outreachy is paid, remote, three month internship program that helps people from groups traditionally underrepresented in tech make their first contributions to Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) communities. Interns are paid a stipend of $5,500 and a travel stipend of $500.
Outreachy internships are open internationally to women (cis and trans), trans men, and genderqueer people. Internships are also open to residents and nationals of the United States of any gender who are Black/African American, Hispanic/Latin@, Native American/American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander. We are planning to expand the program to more participants from underrepresented backgrounds in the future.

Instead of submitting a resume, applicants complete an eligibility form, pick 1 or 2 projects from our projects list, and then start working with mentors to make a contribution to that open source project. Only applicants who have made a contribution and recorded it on the Outreachy website will be eligible to be selected as an intern. Once one contribution is recorded, applicants can start to work on the final application for the internship project.

Additional Salary Information: Interns will be paid a $5,500 stipend for three months of full-time (40 hours week) work. Interns will be able to use a $500 travel stipend to attend tech or open source conferences and events.
The Outreachy internship program has been active since 2006. Each year, we have around 80 interns who work remotely with experienced mentors from free and open source software communities.
The internship is fully remote, and the hours are flexible, as long as interns put in 40 hours a week. Interns receive a $5,500 stipend for three months of work, and have a $500 travel stipend to attend conferences or events to network with the open source community and employers. Our alums find jobs with companies like Intel, ARM, Red Hat, Oracle, DigitalOcean, Gitlab, and more.
