The Server and Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research, development & support to enable smooth infrastructure, ensuring that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, storage, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, users, and clients. This position also acts as the next escalation level for the help desk team.
Understand the virtualization and storage requirements and design the optimum solutions to meet the business needs. Take the lead role in implementing VMware, AHV virtualization solutions with Pure, Cisco UCS or EMC environments. Convert customer’s physical servers to VMware virtual environments and optimize the solutions to meet industry’s best standards. Understand and implement storage networking with FCOE, FCA and iSCSI technologies. Maintain and update necessary technical certification requirements. Maintain standards within data center Some racking and stacking would be included during the provisioning of new environment. Maintain a complete inventory with updated network layouts and diagrams Will be responsible for Brocade and Cisco FIs. Configure, Manage & Maintain.
Skills and Abilities and Other Characteristics:
Proven success of designing and implementing VMware virtualization technologies.
Strong understanding of storage protocols and various operating systems.
Ability to manage multi-tasking virtualization projects and prioritize the tasks in an efficient manner to meet and exceed customer goals.
Be a good team player with a high degree of self-motivation and the ability to manage additional technical resources to meet the project requirements.
Strong aptitude for learning new technologies and understanding how to utilize them in a customer’s environment.
Good interpersonal communication and customer service skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Creative approach to problem solving.
Experience with monitoring tools
Must have good experience/certifications with VMware, Cisco UCS, Pure, EMC and other hyper-converged environment.
5 years managing and installing server and network infrastructure in a datacenter environment
3 years of working on converged and hyper converged environment installing hyper visors independently
3 years of complete understanding of distributed switch in VMWare environment along with DRS and Vmotion.
Should be proficient in upgrading UCS hardware at a very short notice.
At least 3 years of experience in designing and implementing virtualization and storage solutions.
Cisco Datacenter, VCP certifications are required. Microsoft MCITP/MCTS Certifications a plus.
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or equivalent practical experience
Working Conditions/Physical Effort:
Responsibilities require working normal business hours including on call support with availability during off hours for outages and customer escalation.
Lifting 50lbs or more while server provisioning.
No regular travel required.
